Our INtentional Design Process ensures that the greatest potential is realized from each project’s vision, land characteristics, and budget. It combines sound technical design principles with the objective of creating 9 to 18 unique challenges that are carefully woven together to produce enjoyable and memorable experiences, again and again. The entire process can take as little as a few weeks for a small 9 hole recreational course in an existing park or 18 hole layout on a traditional golf course. Although presented in a linear fashion below, several phases can often happen concurrently and it is common to move back and forth between phases as new information is gathered and new possibilities and limitations are presented..

Consultation and Planning

The disc golf course design process begins with learning what the client's objectives are for the course. An initial review of the land to determine what is possible leads to the formulation of a preliminary vision, scope, and general cost estimate. Safety is the most critical design consideration and it begins with the first consultation and continues to opening day and beyond.

Technical Design

Creating balance is one of the most challenging aspects of design. It involves weighting variety, interest, repeat playability over a broad range of player skills as well as consideration of left and right hand dominant players. Putting all this into a blender while considering distances, shot shapes and techniques, the sequencing of holes and prevailing wind conditions ensures safety and provides players with a memorable experience that is far greater than the sum of its parts.

Routing Plan

Perhaps the most important phase is initiated by an in-depth analysis of the land. This requires spending extensive time walking the property(s) and using available topographical maps, and aerial imagery. This is where the unique features and characteristics of the property are integrated into plan options that provide for course flow, a wide variety of shot making, and visual appeal.

Course Development

The ultimate character of each hole is developed as the construction process unfolds. The designer is frequently connected during this phase for ongoing design decisions, and to make adjustments in the field to ensure the course has a high degree of variety and is safe. This is often the time in the process where a new rock outcropping, a unique tree or other feature is discovered and can be easily and effectively integrated into the design.

Conceptual Design

With a general routing plan in place, work can begin on the development of specific holes. Options are presented and major decisions made leading to confirmation of the vision and scope for the project. With a conceptual design in place a project plan, timeline and draft budget can be established. Initial land preparation can begin at this phase along with the sourcing of materials and targets.

Project Completion and Follow -Up

The culmination of this entire experience is highlighted by the property’s grand opening. This where the community can come together to celebrate the new space and perhaps try out the sport for the very first time INdesign Disc Golf believes that an important part of the process is introducing new players to the game and can provide professional disc golf clinics, custom stamped discs to give away or sell, and offers recreational and competitive event planning support.
